Revision C.

Replacement of a smoke detector before the effective date of this Directive is also acceptable if accomplished in accordance with either the original issue of Meggitt SIL 8930-26-01, dated 8 November 2004; Revision A, dated 8 November 2004 or Revision B, dated 19 January 2005.

Note:  FAA AD 2006-04-04 Amdt 39-14485 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - Within six months after the effective date of this Directive.

For Requirement 2 - As of the effective date of this Directive.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 11 May 2006.

Background:

The FAA has advised that certain Meggitt Model 602 smoke detectors can "lock up" during electrical power transfer from the auxiliary power unit to the engines.  This Directive requires replacing the affected smoke detectors with modified smoke detectors and is issued to ensure that the flight crew is alerted in the event of a fire.
