AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Reims Aviation F406 Series Aeroplanes

AD/F406/19 Flap Push Rod Assemblies 9/2009

Applicability:

Reims Aviation Industries (formerly Reims Aviation) Model F 406 aeroplanes with serial numbers 0093 and 0095.

Requirement:

1.    Replace the push rod assemblies part number (P/N) 5865101-1, -7 and -9 by
push rod assemblies P/N 4061-2721-1, -2, and -3 in accordance with the accomplishment instructions of the Reims Aviation Industries Service Bulletin No. F406-68, initial issue dated 20 March 2009.

2.    Do not install on any aeroplane push rod assemblies P/N 5865101-1, -7 and -9.

The use of later approved revisions of this document is acceptable for compliance with the requirements of this AD.

Note:  EASA AD 2009-0127 dated 18 June 2009 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - At the next scheduled maintenance check but not later than
2 months after the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished.

For Requirement 2 - After the effective date of this AD.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 27 August 2009.

Background:

During a scheduled maintenance check, the rod end (MS21152-1) of the flap push rod assembly has been found distorted.  If left uncorrected, this condition could lead to jamming of the flap mechanism which could seriously impair the aircraft handling and potentially result in loss of control of the aeroplane.  For the reasons stated above, this new AD mandates the replacement of the push rod assemblies.
