AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Fokker F100 (F28 Mk 100) Series Aeroplanes

AD/F100/87 Downward Opening Passenger Door 3/2008

Applicability:

Model F28 Mark 0070 and Mark 0100 aircraft, all serial numbers, if equipped with a downward-opening ‘airstair’ type passenger door.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2008-0020.

Note:  Fokker Service Bulletins SBF100-11-025 Revision 1 and SBF100-52-086 original issue, or later EASA approved revisions, refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
13 March 2008.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 13 March 2008.

Background:

Following a red illuminated “DOOR NOT LOCKED” status light indication on the door lock indication panel after lift off, the cabin crew operated the door lock handle.  This resulted in inadvertent opening of the downward-opening passenger door during flight.  Fokker 70/100 Service Letter 272 informs operators not to operate the door lock handle after the aircraft has started to move or before it has come to a complete standstill.  This Directive requires installation of a warning placard and a one-time inspection of the clearance between lever part number A26997-003 and the Up-Limit Switch.
