AD/F100/65 Fuselage ELT System Antenna (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Fokker F100 (F28 Mk 100) Series Aeroplanes
| AD/F100/65 | Fuselage ELT System Antenna | 7/2005 |
Applicability: | Model F28 Mk 0100 aircraft, serial numbers 11290, 11296, 11323, 11329, and 11330; if modified in accordance with Fokker Services Service Bulletin (SB) F100-25-038 or SB F100-25-096. |
Requirement: | Reinforce the fuselage at the ELT system antenna area in accordance with Part 2 Accomplishment Instructions of Fokker Services SB F100-53-100, dated 28 February 2005, or later CAA-NL approved revision. Note: Netherlands CAA AD NL-2005-004 refers. |
Compliance: | Within the next 2 years or 3,000 flight cycles after 7 July 2005, whichever occurs first. |
| This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 July 2005. | |
Background: | Fokker Services developed two specific optional modifications for operators to install an Emergency Location Transmitter (ELT) system. For aircraft which already had ELT systems installed, e.g. on the production line, these modifications include the removal of the existing structural provisions for the new antenna. Recent investigation shows that in such cases (replacement of existing structural provisions) the new structure for the antenna has insufficient strength. This Directive requires the reinforcement of the affected area by replacing the structural provisions. |
