An Act to empower t he Senate of the Uni­ versi ty of Sydney to confer Degrees in cer ta in cases wi thou t Examina t ion and to give to Bachelors of Ar t s the r i gh t of vot ing in cer ta in cases. [23rd March, 1881.]

th i r ty-one in t i tu led "An Act to incorporate and endow the

shal l have power after examina t ion to confer t h e several degrees of Bachelor of Ar t s Mas te r of Ar t s Bachelor of Laws Doctor of Laws Bache lor of Medic ine a n d Doctor of Medicine A n d whereas i t is

expedient t h a t the said Senate should be empowered to g ran t degrees

w i thou t examina t ion in t h e cases hereinafter specified A n d whereas i t is expedient to admi t Bachelors of A r t s in cer ta in cases to have t h e r i g h t of vo t ing for Fellows Be i t therefore enacted by t h e Queen ' s Mos t

t ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of N e w South Wales in P a r l i a m e n t
assembled a n d by the au thor i ty of t he same as follows :—

1. A n y degree wh ich t h e Senate of t he Univers i ty of Sydney is now or may hereafter be empowered to confer after examinat ion m a y a t t h e discretion of t he said Senate be conferred wi thou t examina t ion in t h e said Univers i ty upon a n y person who shall have obtained a corresponding or equivalent degree in any o ther Univers i ty recognized b y t h e By-laws of t h e Univers i ty of Sydney in force for t h e t ime being and t h e persons so admi t ted to such degrees shall be ent i t led to t he same r igh t s and privileges as apper ta in to those who have t a k e n t he same degrees in the ord inary course in t he Unive r s i ty of Sydney.

2. The provisions of th is A c t shall be carr ied in to effect in accordance wi th such by-laws as m a y be m a d e and approved in t he m a n n e r prescr ibed by the said recited A c t of Council .

3. F rom and after t he passing of th is A c t every Bachelor of

A r t s of th ree years s t and ing in t h e Univers i ty of Sydney and of t h e
full age of twen ty -one years shall have t he privi lege of a t t e n d i n g a n d

vo t ing a t t h e election of Fellows of t h e Univers i ty of Sydney.

4.    This A c t shall be styled and m a y be cited as t h e " A d e u n d e m

Degrees A c t of 1 8 8 1 . "
