AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Embraer ERJ-190 Series Aeroplanes

AD/ERJ-190/9 Wing Lower Skin Stringers 6/2008

Applicability:

Model ERJ-190 aircraft, serial numbers 19000004, 19000006 through 19000028, and 19000030 through 19000039.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of ANAC AD 2008-01-02 Amdt
39-1228.

Note:  Embraer Service Bulletin No. 190-57-0005 Revision 1, or later ANAC approved revision, refers.

Compliance:

Before the accumulation of 5,000 flight cycles.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 5 June 2008.

Background:

During aircraft structural fatigue tests, cracks were detected in the wing lower skin stringers between ribs 7 and 10 on both wings.  Undetected fatigue cracking could result in fuel leakage and reduced structural integrity of the wing.
