AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Embraer ERJ-190 Series Aeroplanes

AD/ERJ-190/23 Deployment Failure - Escape Slide 11/2009

Applicability:

EMBRAER model ERJ 190-100 LR, ERJ 190-100 STD, ERJ 190-100 IGW,
ERJ 190-100 ECJ, ERJ 190-200 LR, ERJ 190-200 STD and ERJ 190-200 IGW airplanes equipped with Goodrich Corporation door-mounted escape slide part number (P/N) 104003-1.

Requirement:

Modify the escape slide P/N 104003-1 into P/N 104003-2 as described in Goodrich Service Bulletin 104003-25A380, Revision 1, dated 15 April 2009, or later FAA approved revision.

Note:  ANAC AD 2009-08-02 refers.

Compliance:

1.    After 6 months from the effective date of this AD, no aeroplane may operate with forward escape slides P/N 104003-1 for which 18 months or more have elapsed since the date of slide manufacture or the date of the last slide repack.

2.    After 18 months from the effective date of this AD, no aeroplane may operate with forward escape slides P/N 104003-1.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 22 October 2009.

Background:

Some failures in the deployment of the Escape Slide P/N 104003-1 installed in the forward passenger and service door have been reported during operational checks, preventing the door opening.
