AD/ERJ-190/15 Amdt 2 Low Pressure Check Valves (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/ERJ-190/15 Amdt 1 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Embraer ERJ-190 Series Aeroplanes
| AD/ERJ-190/15 Amdt 2 | Low Pressure Check Valves | 24/2009 |
Applicability: | Embraer ERJ 190-100 STD, ERJ 190-100 LR, ERJ 190-100 IGW, ERJ 190-100 ECJ, ERJ 190-200 STD, ERJ 190-200 LR and ERJ 190-200 IGW aircraft fitted with Low Pressure Check Valves (LPCV) Hamilton Sundstrand part number (P/N) 1001447-3 or P/N 1001447-4. |
Requirement: | 1. Replace all and any LPCV P/N1001447-3 having more than 1500 Flight Hours (FH) with a new or serviceable LPCV P/N 1001447-4 having less than 2000 FH since new or since overhaul. 2. Replace the LPCV P/N 1001447-3 with a new or serviceable LPCV P/N 1001447-4 having less than 2000 FH since new or since overhaul. 3. Replace the LPCV P/N 1001447-4 on the Right Hand (RH) and on the Left Hand (LH) engine with a new or serviceable LPCV P/N 1001447-4 having less than 2000 FH since new or since overhaul. 4. Repeat the replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-4 on the LH and RH engines as detailed in Requirement 3 of this AD. 5. Do not install any LPCV P/N 1001447-4 on ERJ 190 aircraft that have accumulated more than 2000 FH since new or since overhaul on ERJ-190 aircraft. The detailed instructions and procedures to accomplish this AD are detailed in Embraer Service Bulletins Nos. 190-36-0006 original issue, or 190-36-0014 Rev. 01, as applicable or respective further revisions approved by the ANAC. Note: Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil - Brazil AD 2006-11-01R4 refers. |
Compliance: | For Requirement 1 - Before the next flight after the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished. For Requirement 2 - Before any LPCV P/N 1001447-3 accumulates more than For Requirement 3 - Before any LPCV P/N 1001447-4 installed on the RH or LH engine reaches 2000 FH since new or since overhaul. |
| For Requirement 4 - At intervals not to exceed 2000 FH. For Requirement 5 - From the effective date of this AD. | |
| This Amendment becomes effective on 05 December 2009. | |
Background: | There has been an occurrence of an uncommanded engine in-flight shutdown caused by the LPCV failing to close due to excessive wear. Due to the fact that such a fault could occur on both engines of the same aircraft the actions detailed in this AD are intended to prevent a dual engine in-flight shut-down. This amendment now requires the discarding and replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-3 and periodic replacement of LPCV P/N 1001447-4 valves. There is no longer a terminating action by replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-3 valves with LPCV P/N 1001447-4 valves. Revision 1 of this AD became effective 22 December 2008. The original issue of this AD became effective 28 August 2008. |
