AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/ERJ-190/15 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Embraer ERJ-190 Series Aeroplanes

AD/ERJ-190/15 Amdt 1 Low Pressure Check Valves 2/2009

Applicability:

Embraer ERJ-190 aircraft fitted with Low Pressure Check Valves (LPCV) Hamilton Sundstrand part number (P/N) 1001447-3 or P/N 1001447-4.

Requirement:

1.    Replace the LPCV P/N 1001447-3 by a new one of same P/N.

2.    Repeat the replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-3 as detailed in Requirement 1 of this AD.

3.    Do not install any LPCV P/N 1001447-3 on ERJ 190 aeroplanes that have accumulated more than 1500 Flight Hours (FH) on either ERJ-170 or ERJ-190 aircraft.

To calculate the equivalent number of FH for a LPCV P/N 1001447-3 to be installed on ERJ-190 aircraft models, the FH accumulated in operation on ERJ-170 aircraft models must be multiplied by a factor of 0.5 (50%).

4.    Replace the LPCV P/N 1001447-4 fitted on the Right Hand (RH) engine by a new one of same P/N.

5.    Repeat the replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-4 as detailed in Requirement 4 of this AD.

6.    Do not install any LPCV P/N 1001447-4 on ERJ 190 aircraft that have accumulated more than 2000 FH on ERJ-190 aircraft.

The detailed instructions and procedures to accomplish this AD are detailed in Embraer Service Bulletins Nos. 190-36-0004 original issue, or 190-36-0006 original issue, as applicable or respective further revisions approved by the ANAC.

Note:  AGÊNCIA NACIONAL DE AVIAÇÃO CIVIL - BRAZIL AD 2006-11-01R3 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - Remains unchanged as detailed in the original issue of this AD as: Within 100 FH after 28 August 2008, for aircraft logging 1500 FH or above, unless previously accomplished.

For Requirement 2 - At intervals not to exceed 1500 FH.

For Requirement 3 - From the effective date of this AD.

For Requirement 4 - Within 200 FH after the effective date of this AD, or before the LPCV reaches 2000 FH, which occurs later.

For Requirement 5 - At intervals not to exceed 2000 FH.

For Requirement 6 - From the effective date of this AD.

This Amendment becomes effective on 12 February 2009.

Background:

There has been an occurrence of an engine in-flight shutdown caused by the LPCV failing to close due to excessive wear.  Due to the fact that such a fault could occur on both engines of the same aircraft the actions detailed in this AD are intended to prevent a dual engine in-flight shut-down.

This amendment now requires the replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-4 on the RH engine in addition to the replacement of LPCV P/N 1001447-3 valve on the LH and RH engines.

There is no longer a terminating action by replacement of the LPCV P/N 1001447-3 valves with LPCV P/N 1001447-4 valves.

The original issue of this AD became effective 28 August 2008.
