AD/ERJ-170/14 Escape Slide Installation (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | Embraer ERJ-170 aircraft models, serial numbers 17000002, 17000004 thru 17000013, and 17000015 thru 17000196. |
Requirement: | Carry out a general visual inspection (GVI) of the emergency evacuation slide packs installed on the forward and rearward doors in accordance with the detailed instructions and procedures as described in the Embraer Service Bulletin No. Note: ANAC AD 2008-01-03 refers. |
Compliance: | Within the next 600 flight hours after the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive. |

Background: | An escape slide system has been found with the tie-down installation straps, which are used for escape slide packing, still fitted. The tie-down straps will prevent the aircraft door to reaching the fully open position and the consequent deployment of the escape slide system in an emergency evacuation. |
