AD/ERJ-170/1 Cargo Doors (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Embraer ERJ-170 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | All Model ERJ-170 series aircraft. |
Requirement: | 1. Accomplish a visual inspection to check that the forward and aft cargo doors are flush with the fuselage skin when closed, latched and locked, in accordance with the approved Minimum Equipment List procedures for cargo doors inoperative position indication, Chapter 52 “Doors”, item 70-00. 2. Accomplish the following actions on the forward and aft cargo doors: a. Remove and discard the cover plate from the door surround trim lining in accordance with Embraer Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) No. 170-52-A036, or later ANAC approved revision. b. Accomplish a detailed visual inspection for signs of interference of the door handle with the aft edge liner assembly: (i) If any interference is found, rework the aft edge liner assembly in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin No. 170-50-0006, or later ANAC approved revision. (ii) If no interference is found, rework the aft edge liner in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin No. 170-50-0006, or later ANAC approved revision. c. Remove the aft surround trim lining and accomplish a detailed visual inspection for signs of damage of the lateral roller fitting on the fuselage forward and aft cargo door frames in accordance with Embraer ASB No. 170-52-A036, or later ANAC approved revision: (i) If any damage is found, replace the lateral roller fitting with a serviceable bearing with the same part number. (ii) If no damage is found, no immediate action is required. 3. Repeat the Requirement 2.c. requirements. Note: Brazil ANAC AD 2007-03-01 refers. |
Compliance: | 1. Before each aircraft departure after 23 March 2007. 2. Within 10 days after 23 March 2007. 2.b. (i). Before further flight. 2.b. (ii). Within 150 flight cycles after 23 March 2007. 2.c. (i). Before further flight. 3. At intervals not to exceed 150 flight cycles. |

Background: | The ANAC received several reports of aircraft being dispatched and flown with a cargo door unlocked. This Directive requires certain actions to ensure the cargo doors can be closed and locked before dispatch for flight. |
