AD/EMB-145/24 Fuel Conditioning Unit (FCU) (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Embraer EMB-135 and EMB-145 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | EMB-135 and EMB-145 series aeroplanes as specified in ANAC AD 2009-08-03. |
Requirement: | Unless already accomplished, revise the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness to incorporate limitations for fuel tank systems in accordance with the requirements of ANAC AD 2009-08-03. Do the Fuel System Limitation (FSL) tasks at the later of the applicable threshold and grace period times and repeat the inspections thereafter as specified in ANAC AD 2009-08-03. |

Background: | An aeroplane fuel tank systems review required by Special Federal Aviation Regulation Number 88 (SFAR 88) and Regulamento Brasileiro de Homologação Aeronáutica Especial no 88 (RBHA-E 88) has shown that additional maintenance and inspection instructions are necessary to maintain the design feature required to preclude the existence or development of an ignition source within the fuel tank of the aeroplane. |
