AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Embraer EMB-135 and EMB-145 Series Aeroplanes

AD/EMB-145/17 Fuel System Reassessment 9/2008

Applicability:

Embraer EMB-145, EMB-145ER, EMB-145EU, EMB-145EP, EMB-145LR,
EMB-145LU, EMB-145MR, EMB-145MP, EMB-145MK and EMB-145XR aircraft models in operation.

This AD is not applicable to EMB-145LR aircraft modified according to Brazilian Supplemental Type Certificate (CHST) Nos. 2002S06-09, 2002S06-10 or
2003S08-01.

Requirement:

1.    Alter the aircraft approved maintenance plan to include the tasks and their implementation plan presented in the Appendix 2, Section A2.5.2: Fuel System Limitation Items, as shown in the MRB-145/1150 Revision 10, dated
4 August 2006, or further revisions approved by ANAC, with the intervals stated in that document.

2.    Alter the aircraft approved maintenance plan to include items 1, 2 and 3 of the Appendix 2, Section A2.4: Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations (CDCCL), as shown in the MRB-145/1150 Revision 10, dated 4 August 2006, or further revisions approved by ANAC, with the restrictions imposed by that document.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - Before 31 December 2008, unless previously accomplished.

For Requirement 2 - Within the next 90 days after the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 28 August 2008.

Background:

Fuel system reassessment, performed according to RBHA-E88/SFAR-88, requires the inclusion of new maintenance tasks in the Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations and in the Fuel System Limitations (FSL), necessary to preclude ignition sources in the fuel system.
