AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/ECUREUIL/113 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Eurocopter AS 350 (Ecureuil) Series Helicopters

AD/ECUREUIL/113 Amdt 1 Engine Controls - Twist Grip Assembly 12/2006 DM

Applicability:

EUROCOPTER EC 130 B4 helicopters fitted with twist grips not modified per modification 073773.

Requirement:

1.    Perform a functional check of the twist grip assembly and check its condition in accordance with paragraph 2.B.2. of EUROCOPTER Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) No. 05A003 original issue or later DGAC approved revision.

2.    Modify the twist grip assemblies in accordance with paragraph 2.B. of EUROCOPTER ASB No. 67A009 original issue or later DGAC approved revision.

Note 1:  Compliance with Requirement 2 of this AD provides terminating action to Requirement 1 of this AD.

Note 2:  EASA AD 2006-0272 dated 4 September 2006 refers.  This AD supersedes DGAC AD F-2005-145.

Compliance:

1.    Unless already carried out during the previous “100-hour or 12-month” inspection, no later than within the next 30 flying hours after the effective of this AD, then at intervals not exceeding 110 flying hours; and

Each time work is carried out in the area of the twist grip assembly, which may lead to ingress of chips or foreign bodies.

2.    For installed twist grips, no later than 31 December 2006.

For twist grips held as spares, before installation in the helicopter.

This Amendment becomes effective on 27 September 2006.

Background:

This Airworthiness Directive was issued following two reports of twist grip jamming in the "IDLE" position.

This amendment maintains the inspection requirements and mandates modifications which will allow for the cessation of the inspections.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on
26 September 2005.
