AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/9 DC Power Unit 1VE Electrical Connections 1/2006

Applicability:

Model 328-100 aeroplanes with serial numbers 3005 to 3086 inclusive.

Requirement:

1.    If not previously accomplished, carry out the following actions in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Dornier Service Bulletins
SB-328-24-018, dated 5 August 1997:

a.    Perform a one time visual inspection of the electrical connection studs of the 1VE DC Power Unit to ensure correct installation of the terminals and spring washers.

b.    Perform a one time torque check of the electrical connection studs of the 1VE DC Power Unit.

2.    Correct any deficiencies found during the Requirement 1 inspection and torque check.

Note:  LBA AD 97-322 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - Within 30 days after the effective date of this Directive.

For Requirement 2 - Before further flight after completing Requirement 1.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 January 2006.

Background:

The German Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) has received reports of overheating at the electrical connection studs of the 1VE unit due to wrongly installed terminals and spring washers together with incorrect torque of the stud nuts.

This Directive requires both an inspection and torque check of the electrical connection studs and, if necessary, rectification of any anomalies.
