Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/70 Main Landing Gear Bushings 3/2008

Applicability:

Model 328-100 aircraft, all serial numbers.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the requirements of EASA AD 2008-0009.

Note:  Dornier 328 Service Bulletin SB-328-32-245 Revision 2, and Messier-Dowty Service Bulletin 800-32-014 original issue, or later EASA approved revisions, refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
13 March 2008.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 13 March 2008.

Background:

During overhaul of a Model 328-100 landing gear unit, parts of the MLG main body and trailing arm bushings were found corroded.  Investigation revealed that over time these bushings can migrate, creating the risk of corrosion in adjacent areas.  Such corrosion if not detected, could cause damage to the MLG, possibly resulting in functional problems or failure.

Based on these findings, the existing mandatory retrofit limitation for the MLG bushings at 15,000 flight cycles has been amended to add “or 6 calendar years time in service, whichever occurs first”.
