AD/Do 328/68 Main Landing Gear Side Brace Assembly (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/68 Main Landing Gear Side Brace Assembly 3/2007

Applicability:

Dornier 328-100 and 328-300 aircraft.

Requirement:

1.    Unless previously accomplished inspect the MLG side brace assembly in accordance with the instructions of 328 Support Services GmbH Service Bulletin SB-328-32-476 Revision 1 (for 328-100) or SB-328J-32-226 Revision 1 (for 328-300), as applicable.

2.    If any discrepancies are detected during the inspection as required by Requirement 1 of this AD, replace or repair the MLG side brace assembly in accordance with the instructions of Messier-Dowty Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) 32-11-12 (for 328-1 00), 32-11-84 or 32-11-86 (for 328-300), as applicable.

Compliance:

1.    Within 3 months after the effective date of this AD.

2.    Before further flight.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 15 March 2007.

Background:

During maintenance, parts of the Main Landing Gear (MLG) side brace assembly have been found corroded, resulting in heavy operation of the MLG system.  To avoid heavy operation or improper function of the MLG system, this AD requires the inspection and, if necessary, replacement or repairs of the MLG side brace assembly.
