AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/66 Hydraulic System Modifications 10/2006

Applicability:

Dornier 328-100 aeroplanes with the following serial numbers: 3016, 3024, 3026, 3027, 3031, 3034, 3042, 3046, 3049, 3054, 3062, 3066, 3067, 3069, 3071, 3074, 3078 up to 3083, 3085 and 3086 with active ground spoiler installed (option 040-001).

Requirement:

1.    Carry out installation of additional hydraulic lines together with an additional shutoff valve; or

2.    Replace the hydraulic line and removal of the shut off valve in accordance Dornier 328 SB-328-29-269.

Note:  LBA AD 1998-031/2 dated 10 September 1998 refers.

Compliance:

Within 30 days after the effective date of this AD unless previously accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 28 September 2006.

Background:

Calculations have shown that it is theoretical possible for ground spoiler actuators to unlock by high pressure in the hydraulic return line.  This problem is covered by
SB-328-29-237.  The new SB-328-29-269 describes a second technical solution as an alternate means of compliance for the SB-328-29-237.
