AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/6 Engine Control Cable Heating Tubes 1/2006

Applicability:

Dornier 328-100 aeroplanes, serial numbers 3005 through 3111 inclusive.

Requirement:

1.    Unless previously accomplished, install heating tubes on the control cables in the cockpit.

2.    Unless previously accomplished, install heating tubes on the control cables in the LH and RH engine balcony.

Carry out the above requirements in accordance with Dornier 328 Service Bulletin No. SB-328-76-254 Revision 2 dated 29 November 1999 and Dornier 328
SB-328-76-267 Revision 3 dated 28 October 1999 or later LBA approved revisions.

Note 1:  The LBA has added the check intervals for the heaters to the Certification Maintenance Requirements Document and the life limit for the heaters are added to the Airworthiness Limitations Document.

Note 2:  LBA AD 1997-148/7 refers.

Compliance:

Within 30 days after the effective date of this AD.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 January 2006.

Background:

Ice build-up on the engine control push pull cables can cause friction or jamming of the engine controls.  This AD requires the installation of heating tubes to the engine control cables.
