AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/48 Rudder Spring Tab 3/2006

Applicability:

Model 328-100 aircraft, serial numbers 3005 through 3119, equipped with a rudder spring tab with serial numbers up to and including 1145; and spare part spring tabs with serial numbers up to and including 9060.

Note:  Spring tabs with serial number 1146 and subsequent, and spare part spring tabs with serial 9061 and subsequent, are not affected.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with LBA AD 2000-002/2.

Note 1:  Dornier 328 Alert Service Bulletin No. ASB-328-55-028 Revision 3, or later LBA approved revision, refers.

Note 2:  Compliance with Dornier 328 Service Bulletin No. SB-328-55-307
Revision 1 terminates the requirements of this Directive.

Compliance:

Before 31 March 2006, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 16 March 2006.

Background:

Reports were received of cracks on the trailing edge of rudder spring tabs.  This condition can reduce the flutter margin for the rudder spring tab, rudder, and the aircraft.
