AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/21 Ground Spoiler Actuator 1/2006

Applicability:

Dornier 328-100 aeroplanes equipped with ground spoiler actuator P/N
1059A0000-02.

Amendment A actuators are not affected by this AD.

Requirement:

Unless previously accomplished, replace the four gland attachment screws P/N NAS6704HU3 in accordance with Dornier Service Bulletin No. SB-328-27-289 dated 3 March 1999 or later LBA approved revisions.

Note:  LBA AD 1999-175 refers.

Compliance:

Prior to the actuator reaching 3300 flight hours. For actuators that have exceeded 3300 at the effective date of this AD, within the next 330 flight hours.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 January 2006.

Background:

Gland attachment screws have been found loose or broken which could, in the worst case, lead to loss of hydraulics, disablement of the flaps and ground spoilers.  This would lead to extension of the landing gear by use of the emergency system.
