AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/10 DC Power Unit 1VE Bus Bar 1/2006

Applicability:

Model 328-100 aeroplanes equipped with an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) (Option 490-001A) and DC Power Control Unit part number (P/N) 230GC02Y02 or 230GC02Y03 installed.

Requirement:

If not previously accomplished, inspect and modify the APU bus bar installation in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Dornier Service Bulletins
SB-328-24-021, dated 25 November 1997.

Note:  LBA AD 97-354 refers.

Compliance:

Within 30 days after the effective date of this Directive.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 January 2006.

Background:

This Directive requires the inspection of the epoxy glass mounting plate around the spacer holding the APU bus bar for signs of damage together with securing of the lower cover with a shim and checking the torque of the bus bar screw.  These actions are necessary to prevent possible overheating and burning through of the bus bar plate.
