AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Dornier 328 Series Aeroplanes

AD/DO 328/1 Fuel Tank Safety Requirements 13/2005

Applicability:

Model 328-100 series aeroplanes.

Requirement:

If not previously accomplished, carry out the following actions in accordance with AvCraft Aerospace GmbH Dornier 328 Service Bulletin SB-328-00-445 dated
23 August 2004:

a.     Modification of the electrical wiring of LH and RH fuel pump.

b.    Thermal insulation of Cross Bleed Valve, Flow Control and Shut Off Valves bodies and ECS heat exchanger and temperature control valve body.

c.     Installation of markings at fuel wiring harness.

d.    Amendment of Airworthiness Limitations Document (ALD).

Note:  LBA AD D-2005-001 (EASA Approval 2005-910) refers.

Compliance:

Before 31 July 2006.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 22 December 2005.

Background:

This Directive requires product improvement to meet the fuel tank safety requirements according to United States Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) 88 and European Joint Aviation Authorities Interim Policy INT/POL/25/12.  The product improvements are designed to decrease the likelihood of ignition sources within the fuel tank and the possibility of an in-tank fire or explosion.
