DHC-2 (Beaver) Series Aeroplanes

AD/DHC-2/17 Fin Rear Attachment - Inspection 11/2008

Requirement:

CANCELLED.

This AD is cancelled on 23 October 2008.

Background:

This AD, raised in 1972 against De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Service Bulletin (SB) No. 2/11, required an inspection of the fin (vertical stabiliser) rear attachment bolts following reports of fatigue failure.  The failures occurred on floatplanes that periodically carried external loads on the float chassis.  The manufacturer considered it advisable that a minimum of two washers be used in each bolt/nut assembly and recommended that AN bolts be replaced by MS or NAS bolts which would eliminate the need for repeat inspections.

Compliance was with 25 hours TIS after 3 August 1972 and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 12 months.

As all affected aircraft would have been sufficiently inspected and modified by now with no defects recorded on the mandatory reporting system over an extended period of time, this AD is no longer required.
