AD/DHC-1/42 Tailplane to Fuselage Pickup Modification (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
De Havilland DHC-1 (Chipmunk) Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | All Canadian DHC-1 Chipmunk aircraft serial numbers 1 through 62 and 101 through 190. |
Requirement: | Modify the tailplane to fuselage pickups in accordance with De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited Technical News Sheet C-30. Note: Transport Canada Directive CF-52-04 refers. |
Compliance: | Within 30 hours time in service after the effective date unless previously accomplished. |

Background: | Cases have been reported of the tailplane rib attachment angles showing signs of cracking. Modification schemes depend on the condition of the attachment angles. |
