AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Pacific Aerospace Corporation CT/4 Series Aeroplanes

AD/CT4/2 Horizontal Stabiliser Rear Spar 12/2006

Applicability:

Model CT/4E aircraft, serial numbers CT227 through CT240 and, all CT/4 series aircraft fitted with the new style hinge bracket part number 10-30031-1.

Requirement:

Inspect in accordance with Accomplishment Instruction 3 in Pacific Aerospace Corporation (PAC) Service Bulletin (SB) No. PACSB/CT/132.

If cracks are detected, replace the horizontal stabiliser rear spar in accordance with SB No. PACSB/CT/132, and embody MOD PAC/CT/0303 Issue 2.

If no cracks are detected, embody MOD PAC/CT/0303 Issue 2.

Note 1:  MOD PAC/CT/0303 Issue 2 revises the centre hinge attachment to the horizontal stabiliser rear spar.

Note 2:  NZ CAA AD DCA/CT4/7 refers.

Compliance:

Within 100 hours time in service after 23 November 2006.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 23 November 2006.

Background:

A report was received of a cracked horizontal stabiliser spar on a Model CT4-E aircraft fitted with a new style elevator centre hinge bracket part number 10-30031-1.  The horizontal stabiliser rear spar is not repairable and must be replaced if cracking is detected.
