AD/CL-600/76 Pitch Feel Simulator Input Lever (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 (Challenger) Series Aeroplanes
| AD/CL-600/76 | Pitch Feel Simulator Input Lever | 9/2007 |
Applicability: | Bombardier Inc. Model CL-600-2B19, serial numbers 7003 through 7990 and serial numbers 8000 and subsequent. |
Requirement: | 1. Perform a functional check of the input lever of each Pitch Feel Simulator (PFS) in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) A601R-27-144, dated 15 September 2005, or later NAA approved revision. 2. If a disconnected PFS input lever is detected. a. Replace the defective PFS; and b. Forward the completed Appendix A to the above-referenced ASB to Bombardier Aerospace at the address provided in the ASB. Note 1: The PFS input lever checks required under this directive replace the PFS checks that were introduced under TR 2B-1784 to the CL-600-2B19 Maintenance Requirements Manual, Airworthiness Requirements, Appendix B - Airworthiness Limitations. Note 2: Transport Canada AD CF-2005-41 dated 22 December 2005 refers. Note 3: The requirements of this AD supersede those detailed in Transport Canada AD CF-2003-26 which is listed in AD/CL-600/71. |
Compliance: | 1. For aircraft that have accumulated 3900 flight hours or more upon the effective date of this directive, perform the functional check within 100 flight hours of the effective date of this AD; For aircraft that have accumulated less than 3900 flight hours upon the effective date of this directive, perform the functional check upon reaching 4000 flight hours; and Repeat the functional checks at intervals not to exceed 100 flight hours. 2. a. Before further flight, after the effective date of this AD. b. Within 30 days of removing the defective PFS. |
| This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 August 2007. | |
Background: | The shear pin in the input lever of several PFS units has failed due to fatigue. The shear pin failure in unit is not always detectable by the flight crew in normal operation. Failure of the shear pins in both PFS units on an aircraft could result in loss of pitch feel forces and reduced controllability of the aircraft. |
