Ad/CL-600/117 - Aft Cargo Compartment Blowout Panel Protective Cages (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | Model CL-600-2C10 aircraft, serial numbers 10003 through 10268. Model CL-600-2D15 and CL-600-2D24 aircraft, serial numbers 15001 through 15205. |
Requirement: | Replace the existing blowout panel protective cage assemblies in the aft baggage cargo compartment in accordance with Bombardier Service Bulletin 670BA-25-071, dated 15 May 2009, or later Transport Canada approved revision. Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2009-30 refers. |
Compliance: | Within 5,000 flight hours after 24 September 2009, unless already accomplished. |

Background: | Transport Canada received several reports of impact damage to the blowout (decompression) panel protective cage assemblies installed in the aft baggage cargo compartment. Such damage could prevent proper operation of the blowout panels, with potential degradation of smoke detection and fire extinguishing capabilities in the event of a fire. |
