AD/Cirrus/9 Rudder and Aileron Rigging (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Cirrus Design SR20 and SR22 Series Aeroplanes

Applicability: | Cirrus Design Corporation Model SR20 aeroplanes, serial numbers (SN) 1005 through 1861, and Model SR22 aeroplanes, SN 0002 through 2333, SN 2335 through 2419, and SN 2421 through 2437 all inclusive. | ||||||||||
Requirement: | 1. Inspect the rudder, aileron, and rudder-aileron interconnect rigging; correct any out-of-rig condition; and replace the attaching hardware for the rudder-aileron interconnect in accordance with Cirrus Service Bulletin No. SB 2X-27-14 R3, dated 10 October 2007. 2. Report to CASA via the Service Difficulty Reporting (SDR) system any out-of-rig conditions discovered as a result of the inspection detailed in Requirement 1 of this AD. Include the following information in the report.
Note 1: There is no need to report if there are no out-of-rig conditions discovered. Note 2: FAA AD 2008-03-16 Amdt 39-15367 dated 29 January 2008 refers. | ||||||||||
Compliance: | 1. Within the next 25 hours time-in-service (TIS) after the effective date of this AD or within the next 3 months after the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs first. | ||||||||||
| 2. If there are is an out-of-rig condition discovered: Within 10 days after the inspection detailed in Requirement 1 of this AD is completed. | |

Background: | This AD results from an incident of jamming of the aileron and rudder controls on a Model SR20 aeroplane. In addition, other Models SR20 and SR22 aeroplanes have been found with misrigging of the flight controls that could lead to jamming. The issuing of this AD is intended to prevent the possibility of jamming of the rudder-aileron interconnect system, which may result in loss of rudder and aileron flight controls. |
