AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Cirrus Design SR20 and SR22 Series Aeroplanes

AD/CIRRUS/11 Cabin Door Rod Ends and Upper Hinge Pins 9/2008

Applicability:

Model SR20 aircraft, serial numbers 1423 through 1906.

Model SR22 aircraft, serial numbers 0795, and 0820 through 2912.

Requirement:

In accordance with Cirrus Design Corporation Service Bulletin SB 2X-52-07 R4, dated 24 January 2008, or later FAA approved revision, accomplish one of the following:

If threaded sleeve is installed at the cabin door rod end, install cabin door rod end Kit 70186-004.

If threaded sleeve is not installed at the cabin door rod end, install cabin door rod end Kit 70186-005.

Note:  FAA AD 2008-14-13 Amdt 39-15608 refers.

Compliance:

Unless already accomplished, within 50 hours time in service or 180 days after
28 August 2008, whichever occurs first.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 28 August 2008.

Background:

The FAA received reports of two occurrences of in-flight cabin door separation (one total separation and one retained by the door strut).  Failure of the cabin door rod ends, a component of the door hinges, can result in door separation.  This Directive introduces improved rod ends and non-binding upper hinge pins for the cabin doors.
