AD/Cha/2 Amdt 3 Circuit Protector (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/CHA/2 Amdt 2 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
American Champion (Aeronca, Bellanca) Series Aeroplanes
| AD/CHA/2 Amdt 3 | Circuit Protector | 5/2009 |
Applicability: | All Champion 7 and 8 series aircraft fitted with alternator system. |
Requirement: | Install a circuit protective device (ie fuse or circuit breaker) between the alternator power cable and the ammeter connection. Note: Advisory circular AC21-99, Aircraft Wiring and Bonding, provides information on a suitable circuit breaker device. |
Compliance: | Unless previously accomplished, within the next 100 hours time in service. Compliance with a previous issue of this Directive constitutes compliance with the requirements of this Directive. |
| This Amendment becomes effective on 7 May 2009. | |
Background: | This AD was initially issued to provide protection against a fire hazard as no circuit protection existed in the alternator line which routed through bulkheads into the engine. This amendment is issued to update the note by including the correct source of advisory information as AC 21-99, Aircraft Wiring and Bonding. |
