AD/CFE 738/2 Fan Rotor Discs (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
CFE Company Turbine Engines - CFE 738 Series
| AD/CFE 738/2 | Fan Rotor Discs | 3/2006 |
Applicability: | CFE Company model CFE738-1-1B turbofan engines that contain fan rotor disks part number (P/N) 3050745-2, serial numbers (SN's) 000322903511 through 000322903536, and 000322903538 through 000322903541. Note 1: These engines are installed on, but not limited to Dassault Aviation Falcon 2000 series aeroplanes. |
Requirement: | 1. Remove from service the following serial number (SN) fan rotor disks listed in Table 1: Table 1. SN's of Fan Rotor Disks Requiring Removal Before Further Flight
2. Remove from service fan rotor disks SN's 000322903511, 000322903515, and 000322903526. 3. Remove from service fan rotor disk SN 000322903514. 4. Remove from service, fan rotor disks SN 000322903522 and 000322903532. For information on replacing the affected fan rotor disks in this AD, see CFE Company Alert Service Bulletin CFE738-A72-8053, dated 24 July, 2001 or later FAA approved revision. 5. Do not install any fan rotor disks P/N 3050745-2, SN's 000322903511 through 000322903536, and 000322903538 through 000322903541 onto any engine. Note 2: FAA AD 2001-26-06 Amdt 39-12570 refers. |
Compliance: | 1. Before further flight after the effective date of this AD. 2. Within 10 engine cycles-in-service after the effective date of this AD. 3. Within 70 engine cycles-since-new (CSN). 4. Within 140 engine CSN 5. After the effective date of this AD. |
| This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 16 March 2006. | |
Background: | This AD requires the removal of certain fan rotor disks from service. This is prompted by a report from a forging manufacturer, of a metallurgical inclusion (contaminant) found in a forging made from a certain ingot of titanium. Fan rotor disks for model CFE738-1-1B engines have been manufactured from this same ingot and are suspect for metallurgical inclusions. The actions specified in this AD are intended to remove from service affected fan rotor disks, which if not removed, could result in uncontained engine failure and damage to the aeroplane. |
