AD/CF34/5 Amdt 1 Fan Disks (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/CF34/5 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
General Electric Turbine Engines - CF34 Series
| AD/CF34/5 Amdt 1 | Fan Disks | 5/2006 |
Applicability: | General Electric CF 34-1A, -3A, -3A1, -3A2, -3B and –3B1 series engines fitted with a fan disk, part number (P/No) 5921T18G01, 5921T18G09, 5921T18G10, 5921T54G01, 5922T01G02, 5922T01G04, 5922T01G05, 6020T62G04, 6020T62G05, 6078T00G01, 6078T57G01, 6078T57G02, 6078T57G03, 6078T57G04, 6078T57G05 or 6078T57G06. | ||
Requirement: | 1. Remove from service fan disks listed by part number and serial number in Table 1 – Fan Disks that Require Removal
|
| 2. Unless previously accomplished, inspect all other fan disks, P/Nos 5921T18G01, 5921T18G09, 5921T18G10, 5921T54G01, 5922T01G02, 5922T01G04, 5922T01G05, 6020T62G04, 6020T62G05, 6078T00G01, 6078T57G01, 6078T57G02, 6078T57G03, 6078T57G04, 6078T57G05, and 6078T57G06 in accordance with General Electric Alert Service Bulletins CF34-BJ 72-A0088, Revision 1, or CF34-AL 72-A103, as applicable. Later revisions of the reference SB’s may be used in lieu of those detailed in this AD. Note 1: FAA AD 2006-05-04 Amdt 39-14501 refers. This AD supersedes FAA AD 2001-10-03. | |
Compliance: | 1. For disks with fewer than 8000 cycles since new (CSN) as of the effective date of this AD, replace prior to accumulating 8000 CSN. For disks with 8000 CSN or greater as of the effective date of this AD, replace within 30 days after the effective date of this AD. 2. For disks with fewer than 8000 CSN as of the effective date of this AD, inspect before accumulating 8000 CSN or by the next hot section inspection after the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs first. For disks with greater than 8000 CSN as of the effective date of this AD, inspect within 120 days after the effective date of this AD. For the purpose of this Airworthiness Directive (AD), the following definitions apply: (a) A serviceable fan disk is one that has been inspected per Requirement 2 of this AD and is not listed in Table 1 of this AD. (b) Cycles-since-new for fan disk, P/Nos 5922T01G04 or 5922T01G05 is defined as the total cycles accrued since new as P/No 6078T57G02 or 6078T57G03, plus the total cycles after modification from P/No 6078T57G02 or 6078T57G03. |
| This Amendment becomes effective on 11 May 2006. | |
Background: | This AD was prompted by advice that electrical arc-out, most probably caused during an electro-chemical etch process, may be present in certain fan disks fitted to GE CF34 series engines. This condition can result in cracking of the fan disk that can ultimately lead to disk rupture and uncontained engine failure. This amendment corrects an error in the first disk listed by part number and serial number of Table 1 of this AD. |
| The original issue of this AD became effective on 20 June 2001. |
