AD/CESSNA 208/18 Amdt 1 Emergency Power Lever Shear Wire 3/2019

Applicability:

Textron Aviation (Cessna) 208 and 208B model aircraft approved for operation under regulation 174B(2)(d) or regulation 175A(1)(d) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988, (“an Approved Single Engine Turbine Powered Aircraft (ASETPA) approval”), and within the following serial number ranges:

Model

Serial Numbers

Cessna 208

20800001 through to 20800350

Cessna 208B

208B0001 through to 208B0919

Requirement:

Install a frangible/shear wire that ties the Emergency Power Lever (EPL) to the pedestal cover in accordance with Cessna Service Bulletin (SB) CAB01-15 as in force at the commencement of this AD.

Note 1:  The aircraft maintenance manual details actions to be followed when the frangible/shear wire is found broken.

Compliance:

Unless previously accomplished, within 6 months from the effective date of this Directive.

Note 2:  Compliance with AD/CESSNA 208/18 constitutes compliance with this AD.

This AD commences on 8 February 2019.

Background:

Following an incident involving the use of the EPL, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau recommended the fitment of frangible/shear wire between the pedestal and the EPL. This will help ensure appropriate maintenance actions when the EPL has been used for any reason.

This Amendment is issued to align the AD applicability with that of Cessna SB CAB01-15 as in force at the commencement of this AD.
