AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Cessna 206 Series Aeroplanes

AD/CESSNA 206/64 Seat Base/Back Attach Bracket 5/2008

Applicability:

Cessna Model 206H, S/N 20608216 through 20608283 and Model T206H,
S/N T20608445 through T20608662, T20608664 through T20608671, T20608673, T20608674, T20608676 through T20608681, T20608683 through T20608689, T20608691, T20608692, T20608694 through T20608696, T20608699 through T20608701, T20608703, and T20608704.

Requirement:

For crew seats only, follow Cessna Aircraft Company Single Engine Modification Kit No. MK206-25-10, dated 23 April 2007 or later approved revision, as specified in Cessna Aircraft Company Service Bulletin SB07-25-04, dated 23 April 2007 or later approved revision.

Note 1:  FAA AD 2008-05-09 refers.

Note 2:  This Airworthiness Directive is applicable to the front row seats only.  Modification to seats 3 & 4 (2nd row) is not mandated by this Airworthiness Directive.

Compliance:

Within the next 50 hours time-in-service after or within the next 6 months, after the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive, whichever occurs first.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 8 May 2008.

Background:

This AD results from reports of the seat base/back attach bracket failing where it is welded to the seat base.  We are issuing this Airworthiness Directive to prevent failure of the seat base/back attach brackets, which could result in the seats collapsing backwards during flight with consequent loss of control.
