Cessna 188 (Agwagon) Series Aeroplanes

AD/CESSNA 188/20 Amdt 2 Aileron Control Cables 3/2009

Applicability:

Model 188 series aeroplanes with serial numbers 188-0001 through 18801348.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 73-16-02.

Note:  Cessna Service bulletins SE72-1, SE73-12 and SE 73-33 refer.

Compliance:

As specified in the requirement document unless previously accomplished.

This Amendment becomes effective on 12 March 2009.

Background:

Aileron system design improvements were introduced to reduce Agwagon aileron cable wear.  This involved re-routing of cables and/or installation of centreline idler pulleys on certain aeroplanes.  The routine inspections call for the installation of Service Kits to modify the system if premature wear is experienced at fuselage fairlead locations.  Time intervals for inspections and replacement of cables were established to ensure integrity of the lateral control system.

This amendment aligns the AD requirements and time limits for inspections and cable replacement with that of the FAA AD.  Aileron cables are expected to wear beyond limits before the reaching the mandatory 500 hour life limit.
