AD/Cessna 180/91 BRS-182 Parachute System (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Cessna 180, 182 and Wren 460 Series Aeroplanes

AD/CESSNA 180/91 BRS-182 Parachute System 3/2008

Applicability:

Model 182G, 182H, 182J, 182K, 182L, 182M, 182N, 182P, 182Q, 182R, 182S, 182T, T182, and T182T aircraft; equipped with a BRS-182 Parachute System installed via Supplemental Type Certificate No. SA01999CH.

Requirement:

Remove and replace the pick-up collar support and two retaining screws in accordance with Ballistic Recovery Systems Inc. (BRS) Service Bulletin 07-02, dated 8 June 2007.

Note:  FAA AD 2008-02-18 Amdt 39-15348 refers.

Compliance:

Within 25 hours time in service after 13 March 2008.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 13 March 2008.

Background:

The FAA received notification from BRS that the pick-up collar assembly may prematurely move off the launch tube and adversely affect rocket trajectory during deployment.  Premature separation of the collar could result in the parachute failing to successfully deploy.
