AD/Cap 10/12 Control Stick Base Cover Mount (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | CAP 10B aircraft from serial number 300 to 310 inclusive and CAP 10B aircraft from serial number 1 to 40 inclusive that have been retrofitted with a carbon/wood wing ref. 5702-0104048. |
Requirement: | Inspect for correct gluing/bonding of the four (4) mounting blocks of the control stick base cover and perform corrective actions as specified in the accomplishment instructions of APEX AIRCRAFT SB No. 031004 Revision 1, unless previously accomplished in accordance with SB No. 031004 original issue, dated |
Compliance: | At the next scheduled maintenance inspection, but no later than 6 months from the effective date of this AD. |

Background: | Several cases of bond failure discovered in the control stick mounting blocks has resulted in the issue of this Airworthiness Directive to inspect and if necessary repair inadequate or failed bonds. Failure of the bond could result in separation of the mounting blocks from the wing spar with consequent partial or complete loss of aileron and elevator control. |
