AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Bell Helicopter Textron 412 Series Helicopters

AD/BELL 412/54 Rescue Hoist Hook 6/2008 DM

Applicability:

All Model AB412 and AB412EP helicopters with rescue hoist part number
BL-10300-60 or part number 412-8800-01-315 installed, and equipped respectively with hook part number S6150-61090-1 or part number 412-8800-05-101; and affected hooks held as spares.

Requirement:

1.    Inspect in accordance with the instructions of Agusta Alert Technical Bulletin No. 412-124.

2.    Hooks stored as spare parts must be inspected in accordance with the instructions of Agusta Alert Technical Bulletin No. 412-124.

Note:  ENAC Emergency AD 2008-62 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1. - Before the next flight of the helicopter after 10 April 2008, unless already accomplished; or before installation of the affected hoists/hooks on the helicopter.

For Requirement 2. - Before 30 April 2008, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 10 April 2008.

Background:

The ENAC received a report of a part number 412-8800-05-101 hook without the part number BL-1358 lock pin installed.  This condition, unless corrected, could allow the retaining nut to completely unthread and release the hook.
