AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive AD/BELL 222/8 Amdt 1.

Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) 222 Series Helicopters

AD/BELL 222/8 Amdt 1 Emergency Flotation System and Squib Valve 8/2009

Requirement:

CANCELLED.

This AD is cancelled on 30 July 2009.

Background:

This unique Australian AD raised in 1987 against Bell Alert Service Bulletin (SB) No. 222U-87-16 and 222-87-41 required a modification by replacement of emergency floatation system squib valve assembly following tests revealing the possibility that impact of the shearhead nose against the end of the bore in the valve housing may crack or fail the valve housing.

Compliance was:  Within 500 hours TIS after 7 May 1987 or before 31 July 1987 whichever occurs first.

This AD has been sufficiently promulgated for the affected helicopter to have been modified by now; therefore this AD is considered to be no longer required.
