AD/Bell 206/167 Transmission Pylon Support Spindle (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: | Model 206A and B series helicopters that have a part number 206-031-554 Transmission Pylon Support Spindle (Spindle) with the following serial numbers, installed: B12-11568, B12-12244, B12-12260, B12-12647, B12-12676, B12-12847, |
Requirement: | Verify the technical logbook entries if Spindle part number 206-031-554 with a serial number listed in the Applicability section above is installed on the helicopter. If an affected Spindle is installed, before further flight, replace the Spindle with a serviceable part. Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2007-02 refers. |
Compliance: | Within 16 flight hours after 8 March 2007, but no later than 1 May 2007. |

Background: | A Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigation into an accident has revealed that the Spindle repaired by Cadorath Aerospace Inc., failed during flight and resulted in loss of control of the helicopter. This Directive requires removal of all Spindles repaired by Cadorath Aerospace Inc. |
