AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Beechcraft 33 and 35-33 (Debonair/Bonanza) Series Aeroplanes

AD/BEECH 33/46 Grimes Strobe Lights 4/2008

Applicability:

F33A model aeroplanes, serial numbers CE-436 through CE-537 inclusive, equipped with either Grimes part number (P/N) 30-0467-1 or P/N 30-0467-3 strobe light assemblies.

Requirement:

1.    Unless previously accomplished, deactivate the strobe light system in accordance with Beech Service Instruction (SI) 0655-362, Rev. I, or later approved revisions and add a temporary placard near the strobe light switch stating "STROBE LIGHT SYSTEM DEACTIVATED".

Note 1:  This requirement is only applicable until the strobe light system is modified per Requirement 2.

2.    Unless previously accomplished, modify the strobe light system in accordance with SI 0655-362, Rev. I, or later approved revisions.

If an aeroplane has been modified by the aircraft manufacturer in accordance with Requirement 2 above and the aircraft manufacturer has made an entry in the aircraft permanent maintenance record that the modification was "in accordance with either AD 74-20-11 or 74-24-03, as amended", or words to that effect, such modification is considered acceptable for compliance with Requirement 2.

Note 2:  FAA AD 74-24-03 Amdt 39-2016 refers.

Compliance:

For Requirement 1 - Within the next 25 hours time in service after the effective date of this Directive.

For Requirement 2 - Prior to 10 October 2008.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 10 April 2008.

Background:

This Directive follows an internal review of Australian Airworthiness Directives which indicated an AD was not issued for Beech Model F33A aeroplanes.  When FAA AD 74-24-03 was received there were no Beech Model F33A aeroplanes on the Australian register.

This Directive requires the strobe light system to be deactivated until it is modified, theses measures are necessary to eliminate a possible ignition source in an area where fuel/fuel vapour may exist.
