AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive AD/BEECH 200/37.

Beechcraft 200 (Super King Air) Series Aeroplanes

AD/BEECH 200/37 Nacelle Fuel Tank Probe 10/2008

Requirement:

CANCELLED.

This AD is cancelled on 25 September 2008.

Background:

This unique Australian AD, raised in 1981, required the removal, cleaning and refitting of the fuel quantity probes following an in-flight engine failure of a Beech 200 due to fuel starvation.  The cause was attributed to water contamination of the wing tank fuel quantity probes leading to erroneous fuel quantity indications.

Compliance was:  For aircraft with 1900 hours TTIS; within 100 hours TIS after
20 October 1981.  For aircraft with less than 1900 hours TTIS; before 2000 hours TTIS.  Thereafter at intervals of 2000 hours TIS or twelve months.

Since this directive was issued, the manufacturer issued Service Bulletin (SB) SB 2037 Rev 1 to reduce the possibility of incorrect fuel quantity readings that may occur when moisture penetrates the fuel quantity electrical system.  Details and recommendations will be found in CASA Airworthiness Bulletin AWB 28-011 dated 23 July 2008 "Beechcraft 200 Fuel Quantity System".

As AWB 28-011 addresses the water contamination issue and the defect reporting system contains no record of probe contamination since 1981, this AD is considered to be no longer required.
