AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

British Aerospace BAe 146 Series Aeroplanes

AD/BAe 146/116 Fuselage Door Frames 10/2005 DM

Applicability:

All Models BAe 146 and AVRO 146-RJ series aircraft.

Requirement:

Perform the inspections specified in BAE Systems (Operations) Service Bulletin ISB 53-182 initial issue, or later EASA approved revision.

Note:  Where the grace periods detailed in Table 1 of ISB 53-182 commence from the initial issue date of the ISB, for the purposes of this Directive the allowable grace periods commence from the effective date of this Directive.

Compliance:

At the thresholds and intervals specified in the Requirement document.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 29 July 2005.

Background:

The manufacturer has determined that, in order to assure the continued structural integrity of the fuselage frames 15, 18, 41, and 43 of the BAe 146 and AVRO 146-RJ aircraft, a revised inspection programme for this area is necessary.  Cracking, if undetected could lead to catastrophic structural failure.
