AD/B767/253 Fuel Tanks Ignition Source Prevention 12/2009

Applicability:

Model 767-200, -300, -300F and -400ER series aircraft, as identified in Boeing Service Bulletin (SB) 767-57A0100 Revision 1 and SB 767-57A0102 Revision 1, or later FAA approved revisions.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2009-18-02 Amdt 39-15998.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
19 November 2009.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 19 November 2009.

Background:

The FAA AD related to this Directive resulted from fuel system reviews conducted by Boeing.  The actions required by this Directive are intended to prevent possible ignition sources in the auxiliary fuel tank, main fuel tanks and surge tanks caused by a wiring short of lightning strike, which could result in fuel tank explosions and consequent loss of the aircraft.
