AD/B767/209 Strut Vapour Barrier Seal (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Boeing 767 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B767/209 Strut Vapour Barrier Seal 6/2005

Applicability:	Model 767-200, -300, and -300F series aircraft; equipped with General Electric and Pratt and Whitney engines, as identified in Boeing Service Bulletin 767-54-0107 Revision 1, dated 18 December 2003.
Requirement:	Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2005-06-10 Amdt 39-14018.
Compliance:	As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of 9 June 2005.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 9 June 2005.
Background:	The related FAA AD was prompted by a report of a missing section of vapour seal from the spar web cavities of the upper aft struts of both wings, which was discovered during production.  This situation, unless corrected, would allow flammable liquids to leak onto parts of a hot exhaust system of a shut-down engine of an aircraft on the ground, and could result in ignition of the flammable liquids and an uncontained fire.
