Boeing 767 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B767/163 Amdt 1 Door Emergency Escape System 5/2009

Applicability:

Model 767-200, -300 and -400ER series aircraft, as identified in Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 767-25-0428, dated 23 August 2007.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2009-04-12 Amdt 39-15818.

Note:  Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin (SB) 767-25-0428 original issue, and Boeing SB 767-25-0428 Revision 1, or a later FAA approved revision, refers.

Compliance:

As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of
7 May 2009.

This Amendment becomes effective on 7 May 2009.

Background:

The FAA received reports that entry and service doors did not open fully during deployment of emergency escape slides on several Model 767 aircraft.  Investigation revealed that this condition was due to failure of the separation link assembly to release the deployment cable from the deployment bar of the emergency escape system on the entry or service door.  Failure of a door to fully open during an emergency evacuation could impede passenger/crew egress from the aircraft.

Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new FAA AD, which requires replacement of the separation link assembly on the applicable entry and service doors with an improved separation link assembly, and inspecting for discrepancies of the unloaded spring dimensions; and doing investigative and corrective actions if necessary.
