AD/B747/296 Amdt 1 Body Station 2598 Bulkhead (Cth)
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/B747/296 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Boeing 747 Series Aeroplanes
| AD/B747/296 Amdt 1 | Body Station 2598 Bulkhead | 6/2006 |
Applicability: | Model 747-100, -100B, -100B SUD, -200B, -200C, -200F, -300, -400, -400D, -400F, 747SR, and 747SP series aircraft, line numbers 1 through 1307 inclusive. |
Requirement: | Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2006-05-06 Amdt 39-14503. |
Compliance: | As specified in the Requirement document, with a revised effective date of |
| This Amendment becomes effective on 8 June 2006. | |
Background: | Existing FAA ADs, 2001-14-07 (AD/B747/260), 2001-15-03 (AD/B747/228 Amdt 1), and 2003-19-08 (this Directive), currently require repetitive inspections of the body station (BS) 2598 bulkhead and corrective action if necessary. This Directive is amended to incorporate the requirements of the above referenced FAA ADs and the new requirements of superseding FAA AD 2006-05-06, which adds a requirement to modify the bulkhead and the accomplishment of a one-time inspection, which terminates certain repetitive inspections and also requires a post-modification inspection of the modified area. The new superseding FAA AD 2006-05-06 results from new reports of cracking in all three areas that require inspection in accordance with the existing FAA ADs. Undetected fatigue cracking of the BS 2598 bulkhead structure could result in failure of the structure to carry horizontal stabiliser flight loads. |
