AD/B737/304 Flight Deck Door Wiring Looms (Cth)

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B737/304 Flight Deck Door Wiring Looms 8/2007

Applicability:	Model 737-300, -400 and -500 series aeroplanes equipped with flight deck door assembly part number B221001 under United Stated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) supplemental Type Certificate (STC) ST01335LA.
Requirement:	1.    Perform a general visual inspection for chafing of wire bundles in the area of the flight deck door in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of C&D Aerospace Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) B221001-52A02, dated 5 November 2002.
Note 1:  For the purposes of this Directive, a general visual inspection is "a visual examination of an interior or exterior area, installation or assembly to detect obvious damage, failure or irregularity.  This level of inspection is made from within touching distance unless otherwise specified.  A mirror may be necessary to ensure visual access to all surfaces in the inspection area.  This level of inspection is made under normal available lighting conditions such as daylight, hangar lighting, flashlight or drop- light and may require removal or opening of access panels or doors.  Stands, ladders or platforms may be required to gain proximity to the area being checked.''
2.    Correct any discrepancies detected during the Requirement 1 inspection in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of ASB B221001-52A02.

Compliance:	For Requirement 1 - Within 18 months after the effective date of this Directive.
For Requirement 2 - Before further flight after the Requirement 1 inspection.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 2 August 2007.
Background:	This Directive is complementary to AD/B737/217 Amdt 1 and requires a visual inspection and, if necessary, corrective actions to be performed on additional model aircraft to those identified in the FAA Airworthiness Directive referenced in AD/B737/217 Amdt 1.

This Directive is issued to detect and correct wire chafing, which could result in arcing, fire, and/or reduced controllability of the aeroplane.
