Boeing 737 Series Aeroplanes

AD/B737/282 Outboard Midflap Carriage Spindles 4/2006

Applicability:

Model 737-100, -200, and -200C series aircraft, without high gross weight flaps installed.

Requirement:

Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2001-16-11
Amdt 39-12380.

Note:  Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 737-57A1256 refers.

Compliance:

Before 13 May 2006, unless already accomplished.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 13 April 2006.

Background:

This Directive requires inspection of the carriage spindles on the outboard midflap for circumferential score marks, and any necessary rework or replacement.  The actions required by this Directive are intended to prevent severe flap asymmetry due to fractures of both carriage spindles at an outboard midflap, which could result in loss of controllability of the aircraft.
